We've discussed food miles in class using our maps. How much food you think HK produces? Most of you will know that it's pretty minuscule some of you may think none. But this is not sustainable! To reduce our ecological footprint and make HK more sustainable, food needs to be grown locally. But, how?
You are going to create a power point, Prezzi or media presentation on one of the following urban farming solutions.
- Rooftop farms
- Local organic farms
- Urban farm plots
- Vertical farms
- Individual home farming systems
Some presentation tools

http://www.moovly.com/
http://www.powtoon.com/edu-home/
Your presentation must examine the following
- What is it and how does it work?
(ex. Where would you find it? What materials are needed? Who can do it?)
- What makes it sustainable?
(ex. Does it need a big space? Does it need lots of inputs? Can it provide enough food? Do I need a lot of energy to make it work?)
- Examples outside of Hong Kong?
(ex. Name? Where is the example? What does it look like? When did it start? Has it been successful? Can you describe it?)
- Examples inside Hong Kong? (if any)
(ex. Name? Where is the example? What does it look like? When did it start? Has it been successful? Can you describe it?)
- What are the challenges to doing it in HK?
(ex. Why would it be difficult to do? Would we have the space for it? Would it be too expensive? Would it require too much time?)
This isn't just busy work, you will present your information to the incoming year 6 students at the beginning of next term.
